Like highly intelligent nomads roaming an enclosed, temperature-controlled desert in downtown San Francisco, hundreds of TechCrunch Disrupt 2024 attendees were drawn to our booth’s clarion call: Video calls don't have to suck.
This inspiring vow was found to be true by visitors from all walks of life (though mostly from the “tech nerd” walk of life). Declared one new Katmai fan: "I find Katmai's vow to be true!"
Thanks to the four laptops we set up in our booth — we call them “portals” — we were able to invite more than 500 people into our actual virtual office HQ, located in downtown cyberspace, during the three days of TC Disrupt 2024.
These guests were not only dazzled by the look and feel of Katmai — they now know exactly what “a new kind of together” means! — they were greeted by Katmai’s best & brightest team members, who generously paused the important work of building a better Katmai to field questions like “Wait — are you real?”, “If you had a water cooler in your virtual office, would there be little scuba divers in it?”, and the now classic,”Wait – am I real?”
They also got first-look access to one of our brand new architectures, which will soon be available to all Katmai users, along with a string of other new features that I am not at liberty to discuss.
While every visitor seemed to love their time in Katmai, some were so thrilled by that they have joined our affiliates program and will spend the rest of their natural lives telling their partners & customers about us!
Last but not beast, after a seemingly endless series of contract talks, our adorable mascot, Grizzy B, made his first ever appearance at a live Katmai event.
Although he spent most of his time hanging out with other mascots in the dimly lit “Mascot Lounge,” he did emerge to gently bite one of our visitors on the ankle. The visitor’s skin was not broken, and he did not wish to press charges – just Grizzy’s bellybutton!
