A Cleaner (Big) Meeting with 2D View
Three dimensions are how we experience the world. Where someone is sitting, who they’re facing, and the feeling of making eye contact all help us relate to one another. That sense of being together is a big part of why Katmai is a 3D office.
But sometimes - rarely, but in reality - a conversation is easier to see in two dimensions.
I’m talking about LARGE meetings, where people’s video discs can start to overlap, making it harder to see everyone clearly. 2D View on desktop gives those conversations a layout with room for everyone’s face.
More people, a clearer view
When a meeting gets too large to display everyone cleanly in 3D, Katmai automatically switches to 2D View.
You’ll see people arranged in a honeycomb layout over the blurred virtual office environment. You’re still in the same office and the same conversation, with a different view of the people around you.
The active speaker gets a larger disc on the left, making it easier to follow who’s talking. The layout also makes screen sharing easy to follow alongside the people in the meeting.
For meetings that span multiple pages, you can pin people so they always appear on your first page.
Switch whenever you want
You don’t have to wait for a large meeting to use 2D View. Press G on your keyboard to activate it at any meeting size.
When 2D View is activated, the toggle at the top of your screen lets you switch between 2D and 3D whenever you like. Your view is your choice.
If you’d rather control every switch yourself, you can turn off automatic 2D View in Settings, using the gear icon in the upper-right corner beside your self-view. You can turn it back on there, too.
Katmai’s 3D office gives us a shared place to work. 2D View gives us another way to see each other when the conversation calls for it.
